OUR TOWN: Two important veteran events Nov. 11 and 12
Remember the Veterans Day ceremony Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. Our Town is invited to gather on the grounds of city hall to observe a day to honor the sacrifices made by our veterans and their families to keep our country free. Conducted by VFW Post 7573, remarks will be given by dignitaries and service organization officers who will also place floral wreaths at the existing memorials. On the 11th day of the 11th month, at the 11th hour in 1918, the Armistice was signed commemorating the end of World War I with the hope that there would be no more wars after that time. Every year since, that specific date and time had been a day of remembrance in our country, titled Armistice Day. However, since 1954 it has been designated Veterans Day to honor all men and women who have served our country in the armed forces. Please thank a veteran for his/her service. A thank you will follow for your kindness. Note: Following the ceremony, a luncheon will be served at the VFW Cove, 35011 23 Mile, and all are invited. Guests are requested to bring a dish to pass.

"WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA" spaghetti dinner fundraiser Nov. 12: Our Town is encouraged to attend the event in the VFW Post 7573 front hall. The price is a free-will donation, so please be generous. The menu includes a delicious all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner with salad, rolls, dessert and beverage. Served from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., veterans eat free and will receive a special gift. There will be basket drawings and 50/50 raffles. Not able to attend but want to sponsor a wreath? Send a check payable to Wreaths Across America, mailed to Curves, 35453 23 Mile, New Baltimore, MI 48047. The purpose of the dinner is to raise funds to purchase over 750 wreaths that will be placed at the grave sites of veterans at St. Mary's and Oakwood cemeteries on Saturday, Dec. 12, beginning at noon. The ceremony will take place on the very same day throughout our country and many others around the world. Questions? Please contact devoted chairpersons Mickie Mellon at (586) 885-6992 or Tammi Graber at (586) 716-2523.
